Today, my family and I were going to my grandparents' for Christmas. As my car was totaled recently, I had to get a ride with them. They left without me in the time it took to put my shoes and socks on. FML

OP here. It wasn't a mistake, I was getting ready and they said they were leaving. I told them to wait, and they said they wouldn't, as they were already late. Ordinarily I am very punctual, to the point of being early everywhere. I wasn't that day, because the time had been moved, and nobody told me. Originally it was going to be at 6:00 pm, and they moved it to 3:00 pm. They didn't wake me until 2, and didn't tell me that it had been changed until they were saying to hurry up a few minutes before. I was asleep because in addition to being a substitute, I work at Toys R Us, so even though I'm off for one job, the other is stronger than ever. The days leading up to it I had worked two fifteen hour days, then the night before an eight hour one, where I got out around 1:30 am. My dad came back after 15 minutes, so it ended up working out alright, but I was mad as hell.

It's great that they returned eventually, but so messed up that they left so hurriedly in the first place, knowing what you went through earlier! I hope the time spent at your grandparents was great, and I hope your Christmas went well!?

My family does that all the time if we're late but usually just if it's like grocery shopping or going to church. However we are usually better at letting people know what time we are leaving.

Depending on tne distance, I would have called a cab to not only spite them but ensure your right to see your grandparents too, and have your parents foot the bill since they couldn't wait a few seconds. Might be a lesson for them. That or the equally ridiculous of next time going out to car barefoot and just putting them on in there.

The area that I'm in doesn't have many cabs; there's a few, but I doubt that I'd have been able to get one on Christmas Eve. I only live about 5 minutes away by car, so I would have just rode my bicycle over, except I had presents that would have made it impossible to do so.

I didn't bother putting them on in the car for a couple reasons. First, it takes me no more than 30 seconds to put on my socks and lace up my shoes. My parents always forget something, so I figured they would be back in the house grabbing things, in which time I'd have already been ready (also, I didn't think they'd actually leave, as they know that it would be only seconds they were further delayed). Second, I would have had my hands full, and thus been unable to put them on in the car. This would be no big deal, except my grandfather would have seen and been worried (as when they're expecting company he likes to wait outside on the porch), thinking that I'll get sick, and asking why I didn't already have them on, which would have forced me to either lie and make myself look bad, or tell the truth, and end up causing a scene, neither of which would have worked.

Your car got totaled? You mean you totaled it?

No, some idiot hit me head on. I was crossing through an intersection, they were facing the opposite way, in the left-turn lane, and they went through when I already was in the intersection. Apparently the driver had looked down, ostensibly at the radio, looked up, saw the light was green, and went immediately, not bothering to check if any other car was actually passing through.

should have called 911 n reported that the driver of the car with license tag # (insert tag number here) was swerving all over the road.......

I can be petty at times, but I'm nowhere near that vindictive. Plus, as that would be a false report, I would most likely end up in legal trouble.
