Today, my family picked a place for my birthday dinner. They chose a seafood restaurant. I'm allergic. FML

Are your parents stupid? On your birthday they pick something you can't eat? It's your birthday, should you pick the place?

When you blow out the candles, look them in the eye and wish "to have better parents next year" out loud.

happy birthday!! It sucks that your parents did that.

Most seafood restaurants have some non-fish items on their menus. I hope this was the case for you and you could at least get a really nice steak.

Even then depending on how allergic the op is to fish all the surfaces would need vigorous sanitation for it to be safe.

I'm a vegetarian and my family went to KFC for my birthday. Yay mac and cheese. :)

I mean idk about you but their Mac and cheese is the bomb

I feel you OP. I've got seafood allergies too. Thankfully so does my mom, but whenever the REST of the family wants to eat somewhere - fish. Every birthday. Every time. They claim they never remember but the seafood allergy has been with the family for over 30 years. I stopped going with them.

I know it sucks but honestly I pick seafood as my go to special occasion food as well. I eat chicken, beef and pork quite regularly and for the most part only get seafood when going out to eat. As I love seafood it makes special events even better. But with allergies in the family I would think a place with a good variety of alternative choices.

Sounds like something my family would do. I have to avoid certain foods for medical reasons and my mom will make it for Christmas dinner and be like "I know you can't eat this... But it's Christmas, and it tastes so good".

They don't have a big life insurance policy in your name do they?

Seafood places usually have more than just seafood.

I feel OP, last year my parents took me to a steakhouse for my birthday dinner and I'm a vegetarian... Granted the distant relatives in town wanted to go there, but still, all I could have was salad
