Today, my father passed away. I called my boss to let him know about the situation. His only response before hanging up: "Shit, dude. Well, I'll see you in the morning, these reports won't write themselves." FML

Im pretty sure there is a law that grants you a few days off work for situations like this. Definitely check what it is for your state, and bring it up to him. Or HR if necessary

I'm pretty sure that's a good reason to file a complaint against him. I'm sorry OP, hopefully your dad lived a long, full life.

When my grandfather died my boss expected me to come too. what kind of people do that.

it sucks he was so rude, i dont disagree with that at all, bu5 for your own sake, working is a good way to ease the mind by making you focus on something else

Wow if he isn't joking Id tell his boss and then find another job.

Pretty sure that's illegal. Look into bereavement leave laws

This is awful. Sorry OP. I had a friend at my first job lose her son to a drive by shooting, and they only gave her 3 days of paid time off to mourn.

**** that guy! That is completely uncalled for. also, I'm really sorry for your loss.
