Lol_0127 tells us more.
I'm the OP. Let me clarify a few things. He's not suffering finacially. He makes $60,000 a year. I make $20,000. He bought a $3000 ring which was more than enough for me. It's beautiful. I don't want a massive rock. I don't spend all his money. I support myself. We live together. I pay half the rent

He could just get a ring he can afford... Unless OP has a 'dream ring' picked out all platinum and diamonds and thousands of dollars and won't be happy to get anything else...
I know different customs changed since I was proposed to, but being asked to pay half of an engagement ring seems so unromantic. Perhaps, if a guy doesn't have a financial goal to purchase an engagment ring on his own, it might be a sign that he's not financial ready for marriage. Many girls need security that they are going to be taken care of. (I'm not talking about goal diggers.) Any other purchase seems fine to split. Maybe I'm just too old fashion in "this" matter.
didn't i tell you about ur pic sourgirl? who's that douche in the pic? well take it off!

Wow I am so dumb. When I first read this FML, I thought it meant to half the ring and have half each. I read 5 comments until I realized what it really meant. I am a total failure.
what do you live in the 1800's?
