Today, my French wife chose the name of our unborn baby girl. She wants to call her Fanny and won't change her mind. FML

Make sure her middle name is Pack.

For the sake of your child I hope you change her mind

maybe get her to name her Francine? Then she can call her Fanny at home but the kid can use a more acceptable name out in the real world

Er in France, Francine is a old name . Fanny is common name . And the foreign language level is bad in France, very bad. In general the students who knew that Fanny meant in english are a students with good grades and ( even if I knew good students with bad behavior ,but it's rare) enough good behavior for didn't bullied students.)

I would recommend telling your wife that "Fanny" translates to "butts" in English.

In American English yes. In British English it's ******.

well it's a popular old name in France, I don't see the problem with the name i you think it's cute yourself why do you want her to change it.

Maybe because of the meaning it carried in other languages, personally I wouldn't want to name my child another word for butt or pussy. Maybe he's just concerned about how it'll impact her in later years?

If they don't plan to move back to an english speaking country, it won't bother her at all...

Well, in France Fanny doesn't mean what you think it means. If you're American or English it means something, but it's still a legitimate name. I mean, even the definition between England and America is different.

My mother-in-law's name is Fanny. She doesn't like it, but she gave one of her daughters that as a middle name.

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't "Fanny" also what British people call the vajayjay?

Did you just comment without reading all the other comments? This has been discussed more than a few times.

Explain to her why it isn't a good idea. xD We both know what those reasons are.

Ask her to change it to franny. Like, Francine

Move to France. Problem solved. Plus you get to live in France. C'est magnifique!

I guess if you plan on living in France for the rest of your lives it's no big deal. However, if you plan on moving to an English speaking country you might really want to talk her out of it, otherwise your daughter will probably take it up the -insert her name here- when the bullying starts.
