#48 you can take a leave of absence from work for personal reasons for up to 12 weeks as long as you meet the requirements. She probably wasn't paid, unless she used her own sick/vacation time.

#48 She could have been close with her boss, my mom's bf was able to take time off to support our family when we loss our grandmother, even though he was of no relation to her. Many work places are flexible, it honestly depends on the job and the dynamic between you and your boss.
