Today, my girlfriend's parents wanted to cook dinner for me. After a whole day of cooking up a storm, her parents cooked an elaborate meal of roast lamb, pork chops and grilled chicken. Rejecting a meal is like spitting in ones face in Chinese culture. I'm vegetarian. FML

Why didn't you tell them that when you found out they wanted to cook for you? Unless you had no idea until you arrived for dinner. In which case, FYL indeed.

That sounds like a hell of a meal you missed out on.

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

That stinks; but your gf should've let her parents know you're a veg...

I was vegetarian for six years, when I started to make the change back to including meat in my diet. I was sick after each time I ate meat for the first couple of months.

i'm vegetarian as well...yet i had the common sense to tell all my friends/family that i am. whenever my boyfriend's family makes me dinner etc they always provide vegetarian choices for me.. i'd say this is your fault...

Also, if i was in your situation. I would just suck it up and eat the damn food

Well the most logical thing to do OP is to actually spit in their faces.

Well, im sure they made stuff that doesn't contain meat so eat that and make sure to inform them or have your girlfriend inform the, that you don't eat meat. It's either make yourself really sick, by eating the meat or just being honest and telling her parents that your a vegitarian.

To all of you "Vegan is so healthy" people: Pure vegans are deficient in B12. The only source of B12 is in animal products, so NO, you can't just say vegan is the healthiest option. Taking B12 supplements? Fine. But, the source of that B12 is still animal products. So argue all you want about if man is "supposed" to be an omnivore or whatever, but the fact remains that you become b12 deficient (And therefore anemic with high likelihood of neurological problems) with a pure vegan diet. And yes, I do know what i'm talking about. I'm a medical student.

Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, fungi, and algae. Neither plants nor animals can synthesize the vitamin, so vegan supplements and fortified foods use those three sources, because NO animals make B12.

Congrats. Iron and B12 aren't the same thing. And yes. The B12 actually comes from bacteria. But we still get it from the animal product. A great majority of b12 supplements utilize animal products because they're cheaper to produce.

Apfluxx-- There are about 20 different types of anemia. "Iron Deficiency Anemia" is just one of them. B12 deficiency anemia is a subtype of Megaloblastic Anemia. The word "anemia" does not inherently mean iron deficient.

Do the research man. It is estimated that up to 92% of vegans are B12 deficient. ^ Dong A, Scott SC. "Serum vitamin B12 and blood cell values in vegetarians". Ann. Nutr. Metab. 26 (4): 209–16. doi:10.1159/000176565. PMID 6897159. In terms of the "all vs. some" argument, I'm not even completely sure if any of the manufactures that make b12 supplements utilize non-animal sources. I would guess that a few do; however, since the majority still use animal products, than many of today's vegans are either hypocrites or unknowingly still utilizing animal products. My issue is this: Vegan is not a "natural" diet because we can not really live a non-deficient life on it. Everyone above is making these philosophical "what is man supposed to be?" arguments. So take away b12 supplements (since arguing that a manufacturing process [which probably still utilizes animal products] is "natural" is a bit suspect) and we have a human species that can't live as vegans without inducing a vitamin deficiency. ____ Also, since you're arguing since B12 comes from BACTERIA and not the ANIMALS, do you instead advocate eating the bacteria? And why is eating bacteria acceptable? They're living organism too, you know.

Well you have to decide what is more important your abstaining from eating meat or her. Were designed to eat meat and plants not just one or the other. It is better to eat meat a few times a week then going without all together. But of course the veg's will say meat is murder and veggie is best but just because your a veg doesn't make you any healthier. Anyway yes you might get sick a little from eating the meal but that is not as bad as offending your girlfriends family especially if it's a serious relationship heading towards marriage.
