They went to a lot of effort for you. If you knew ahead of time they were cooking for you, you're a douche for not letting them know of any dietary restrictions.
I had a similar thing with my husband's parents... they cooked a reindeer casserole. For all those saying you should have warned them before, do you know how awkward things can be with parents?
Do you know how much MORE awkward things will be NOW?
That's why I just ate Rudolph...
Yep. I'm already seeing some tardtastic arguments.
If you didn't bother to make sure that they knew in advance, then YDI. On the other hand, if they ignored it, then they deserved it (not to mention FYL). Then again, if you're a vegetarian for reasons other than some dietary necessity or personal preference, then you probably deserve it anyway.
YDI for being vegetarian! Seriously, you won't stop people killing animals for food with that and it isn't that healthy at all. But okay, that's my opinion. FYL because your girlfriend didn't tell them that you're a vegetarian.
"YDI for being vegetarian! Seriously, you won't stop people killing animals for food with that and it isn't that healthy at all. But okay, that's my opinion." It IS your opinion, because it's backed with /no/ fact. It's a proven fact that being a vegetarian saves over 50 animal lives a year. It is also proven that it is much healthier, as it leads to lesser chances of obesity and heart disease, and even some cancers, diabetes, and hypertension. There are no nutrients in meat that you can't get elsewhere. Plus, many vegetarians don't eat meat as a personal choice, because they personally won't be responsible for murder, and even because they don't like the taste of meat. Few of them think they're going to change the world to a vegetarian one... but, it's like killing people- do you not kill people because you think it'll make everyone stop killing, or because it's your choice to be moral and not murder?
totally agree, i personally don't eat meat because of the being responsible for murder thing, but also because right now my stomach won't take it, and i don't wanna go through the agony of readjusting my body's digestion system so i can consume loads of a fat and grease -.- but yeah, i didn't go veg cuz i felt i could convince the world to stop killing animals, yeah i've brought the info to a few friends who i'm glad to say have gone vegetarian and one that went vegan (even though i'm not vegan anymore lol) but definitely not the world
your post so far makes the most sense of anyone else's here #101.
I don't kill people because I'd get in trouble. ... You know that morals are made, not built in, right? So it's not exactly a personal choice so much as a social conscious (and, in my opinion, an overreactive one). Personally, I think all forms of life, humans and plants included, are equally disgusting, so wth's it matter who eats what? I don't care if your diet is healthy because it's your own damn life.
That really sucks. Your girlfriend should have told them. FYL for the horrible choice you had to make.

Why didn't you tell them that when you found out they wanted to cook for you? Unless you had no idea until you arrived for dinner. In which case, FYL indeed.
That sounds like a hell of a meal you missed out on.
