OP here, all of the suggestions saying go to a higher up are great, but the only reason I can't do that is because it's a family owned restaurant. I am the assistant manager and I've been working there for almost a year; I've only called out twice. My bosses are the owners son and nephew. There's not much I can do about the situation other than leave the job as this isn't the first time they've left early while I closed the restaurant. Thank you all for the concern about my grandmother. She is doing alright now and she's stable.

Threatening you that way is illegal. if you have a medical emergency or medical care of family like that they can't retaliate or terminate you for it. it's not just state by state that's federal iirc.
That only applies to immediate family members. unfortunately Grandparents aren't legal defined as an immediate member of the family. Regardless of how close one may be with them. With the exception if they had parental guardianship over one as child.
Bunch of jackasses
There's laws against this...
File a complaint with the owners and fair workers rights. Some people are so nasty.
complaint to management and you should consider finding another job your boss is a ******* douche
If that's the kind of restaurant they're running get Gordon Ramsay
It sounds like a place like that doesn't deserve a loyal employee like you, I would get out. Always plenty of opportunities else where!!
That sucks. A similar thing happened to me with my fiance. She was in the ICU with a tube down her throat and the nurses and doctors were telling me it didn't look good (she's fine now). My boss did the same thing. Hugely unprofessional and rude. I hope you do something about them.
Time to find a new job

I hope you explained to them the position you were in but if you did and they said that's what pricks they are who abuse their power
