Today, my instructor turned up late to get me for my driving test. I soon realized something was seriously wrong. Turned out his wife left him last night, and he'd been drinking the pain away all morning. He ended up rear-ending another car, and now I have to reschedule my test. FML

I agree that is definitely FYL. On the bright side you didn't get hurt

Heart broken or not he must've known that was the worst possible idea. Should have called in sick.

Should ask to be reimbursed for the test since he was the reason you missed it.

so were you driving during the test or was he? ....

This is worded really bad, it makes the FML sound like the instructor hit a car DURING the test, instead of before.

I think you might want a different instructor.

Where is this in Wisconsin because this is ****** up XD

What do you mean 'FML'?? Boo-Hoo! You have to reschedule your driving test, but your driving instructor's life just fell apart. I know who truly deserves an FML and I'm sorry, my friend... It is not you.

So this guy's wife left him, God knows the consequences concerning housing/possible children/division of goods/..., he drinks away the pain and ends up causing yet more trouble for himself by causing a DUI accident, and YOUR life is ****** because you have to reschedule your test? Wow.

Yes, f HIS life because he had to pay for the instructors personal problems. You can have sympathy for more than one person, though the instructor REALLY should've taken time off considering he's obviously in no condition to work.

Obviously the instructor should've known better than to drink and drive. Still, how in the world can someone be as insensitive and egocentric as whining about having to reschedule a test because of someone else, when the latter person's life REALLY fell apart the night before? This isn't an FML for the OP, it's an inconvenience. The FML is the instructor's. That guy just lost his wife and has to deal with all of the consequences of divorce. This accident will most likely cost him his job as well. I do think this situation far outweighs rescheduling a driving test.

I thought that the car you have to use in a driving test is YOUR car, not the instructor's (at least, that's how it is in my state.) This makes this more than just an inconvenience for OP. Sure, that instructor may have had a bad night, but for him to arrive drunk, drive in your vehicle, crash it, and reschedule one of the biggest tests of your life seems quite terrible. FYL OP. Definitely FYL.

The way I understand it is the instructor crashed his own car, not the OP's. Over here, driving instructors never drive their students' cars, not even during the first class (most even use a car from the driving school instead for insurance reasons). It doesn't make sense that an instructor should pick up a student and drive them to the examination center - it's the last occasion for the student to practice. And even if the instructor did damage the OP's car, it's still the instructor who'll be paying for the damage to be repaired.

If I were you, I'd request a different instructor.
