Of course it's nice that her mother loved her enough to worry, but I think she has the right to be embarrassed about it. At 25, not only is having your mom call your boss to make sure you have a hat on embarrassing, but it can be damaging to your career. She's a grown woman not a 5-year-old; if her mother was worried she should have called her directly before/during work.
