Today, my mom convinced me that she and my dad were getting divorced. I have anxiety problems, so I had a panic attack. She then laughed, and said, "Just kidding, I wanted to see your reaction. It's the best so far." FML

Maybe you should get some help for that anxiety. I have severe anxiety and even I think reacting to that with a panic attack is an overkill.

I have severe anxiety also, and I think a panic attack would be justified. Just because something wouldn't necessarly set you off, doesn't mean it wouldn't set OP off. But I agree that OP should get some help... Or start plotting some sweet revenge :P

You should have said, "It's about time. Now I don't have to tell you how I walked in him screwing another woman." On the other hand, with all the time and money she's spent on your therapy and meds, she should be able to have a bit of fun with your disease.

Though OP's mother played a cruel prank to horrendous effect, she meant no harm by it. Doesn't make her psychotic. Also, contracting "parents" to " 'rents" just doesn't work.

Look at the possible strength of their relationship...enough to joke about divorce! Perhaps cruel knowing your issues. However sure it won't be last panic attack you experience.
