of course you never know in an FML, but OP could be a 19 year old in a level 101 algebra class and his sister could be a 2 year old that knocked over a candle

I reckon my mum would just about throw me a party if I got a 67 in algebra. I aspire to even pass any aspect of maths. But on another note, it's probably because your sister almost set it on fire, rather than actually doing it.

Almost set the house on fire can still mean significant fire damage. Hell, the structure might never be in danger, but you could still ruin furniture, carpeting, etc. For all we know the 'almost' is only an almost because of someone being quick with the extinguisher.
