Eum, Platfoot, you do realize that true feminists want to give both men and women the same rights? Therefore a true feminist, like myself, will condemn both husband-beats-wife and wife-beats-husband. Please educate yourself about the real meaning of feminism before bashing it. Domestic violence against men happens more than many people think, certainly verbally abuse. It's important that everyone is aware that men also can be abused in a relationship, and that this doesn't made them a wimp or the woman a hero. Many male victims won't go to the police because they are ashamed a woman is abusing them, therefore they will keep living in misery. It's a mentality that has to change.

In a country where everybody is equal, just some are a little more equal than others. If police are called to domestic violence, they always cuff the man. The man can be bruised, bleeding, and in busted up condition, with the woman's only problem being they broke a nail, the guy STILL gets handcuffed immediately. They will let the guy go after awhile, but he shouldn't be cuffed at all. This world has a set idea for every kind of fight. Man beats man - had a fight, no big deal. Man bears woman - greatest scumbag in the universe, deserve to die in a pit after doing hard labor for the rest of their days. Woman beats man - hero to the world, deserves a worldwide holiday in their honor. Woman beats woman - sexy cat fight. None are any better/worse than others, and people need to grow up and realize that.

Salaaaam - read my comment carefully, and then get your head out of your ass. Unlike many here, I DON'T generalise. I base my comments on facts. In Iran, abuse of women is rampant (but not universal), and based on your username, you're probably well aware of that. In a culture (like the US) where the sexes are supposedly equal, domestic violence needs to be squelched. However, in a culture where women are treated as second-hand citizens, that equality hasn't happened yet, and women DO need to fight back (though perhaps not physically). Make sense?

I don't take kindly to being called a bigot. You're welcome to insult me if I say something stupid, but in this context I will defend myself vehemently from inappropriate attacks. Don't go labeling me a bigot and THEN call for civility after I defend my statement.

No such thing as reverse sexism. There is only sexism which applies to all genders, male or female.

It is not illegal for him to defend himself if she hit him first. ( And to claim self defense, she would have had to. ) Self defense, to the point of stopping your attacker is not illegal. It's going beyond stopping the attack ( let's say getting her on the ground per se, then continuing to hit her/or him) that becomes illegal.
