Oh, lord. Why does it seem like no one can recognize a joke on this HUMOR site? Although, being serious, I still might not hire a guy who overdressed for an interview, but not for that reason. Although, I've never been in a position to hire somebody, so it's hard for me to say. It would just make the person look like they had no common sense, or didn't even know how to dress sensibly.
I feel your pain. In the 1990s I went on an interview at a dot-com startup in a suit because, well, "that's what you wear to an interview". My interviewer was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops. The interview lunch was held at a local taco stand. I didn't get the job. "FML"
Damn hippies.
Strange, because hippies are known for their love of formal business attire and everything it represents...
Dave's not here, man.
What job were you applying for???
I've always learned that during interviews you always dress up nicely, no matter if your boss dresses up in a Hawaiian shirt (etc.) or business suit. You did right :)
If you're old enough to work, you're old enough to dress yourself appropriately.
You should have said that you are a business hippie... :)

That is so not your fault. You did the proper thing, and what any other interviewer would want. Next time you will get the job.
Dress appropriately, you cant be draped in a sari for an interview at the hooters.
