You ALWAYS go to an interview in nice attire, no matter the job. I went in a skirt & heels in my last interview while the manager wore sweats. It just shows you can be professional, even if they aren't.
You always dress a step or two above the position for which you interview. So if you're interviewing for an office job, you wear a smart suit. If you're applying for a retail job, a nice structured dress or pants and a nice blouse. You were applying for a job in a hippy store. It's one place you *don't* wear a suit, for obvious reasons, and YDI for not telling your mom that it's a hippy store. You consider what the employees are wearing and go a bit nicer.
Did you just answer an ad or actually go to the store before applying? Next time do research or apply for a real job
I've always dressed one class above the stores dress code, and for the most part it'd worked. If I were you I'd try that. Lol, maybe he though you were a fed?
It's still good etiquette to have OP, suits are always the best choice for a job interview.
Dress for the job you want d.a.
Next time dress in what you think is right it's not your mums job is it?

That is so not your fault. You did the proper thing, and what any other interviewer would want. Next time you will get the job.
Dress appropriately, you cant be draped in a sari for an interview at the hooters.
