I usually hate kids, but I think I like your kid. btw, you could try to play Stryper to please your mom, they are metal, but with christian lyrics.
I had a lot of discussions with lots of christians and the idea that you can please this kind of people with christian metal is very often futile. I know people who claim that almost any kind of music will lead you to hell on a direct path - with exception of the music they like, of course. I am atheist, pretty much a metalhead and even I like to listen to christian metal sometimes. I tried to point out that for example Demon Hunter has really faith-affirming texts and that, IF something could wake some interest for religion, it would be bands like this and not some cumbaja-crap. And I pretty much bit on granite because those people are so close minded that even Jesus would have a hard time to find their approval. Anyway, I wonder how OPs mother can justify her way of parenting and her choice of music, since SHE is the one who raised a satanist.
yeah I guess hardcore christians can find something bad in all music. I saw a site once that was the most anti-metal site i've ever seen (by some weird christian group). it was all about the deaths of rockers, and how nobody died by aging, etc. they were claiming that no such thing as christian metal existed.
Oh look at who the OP is?! (: Slap, I didn't know you were also a rocker chic! Rock on! (: My folks were the same way about hating my choice of music. I tried to compromise by listening to some speed metal Christian bands. I liked what I heard!
It's a good idea but I refuse to listen to any music classified as religious music. I'm atheist and I don't really care for it. On the other hand when my daughter gets older I will not berated her for her choice of music like my mother has done me. :)
The only thing you should be keeping your kid away from is your mother! Well, at least until its older so your mom won't brainwash it. Its great that you let your kid like whatever music pleases them :) No one should try to force music, fandoms, religions, sexual orientations, etc. onto kids. Teach your kid diversity and support them as an individual :) Also let them know there are people like your mother who want to push their opinions and beliefs onto others and that its not okay but also its not okay to hate on other kinds of people who don't know better.
The metal shall always live on.
m/ Metalheads generally have better manners and worldviews than those who are absorbed into popular culture anyway. As I type this I am being subjected to whichever song is trending the office radio, consisting of the same line repeated ad nauseam AND they bear no actual meaning or contribution to society whatsoever. I personally hate the concept of children but OP, you're doing it right :D
"...they bear no actual meaning or contribution to society whatsoever." But to be truthful most music fits into this category. Unless you spend most of your time listening to protest music or stuff with social critique/commentary, most music is purely escapism. Not saying anything bad about whatever you choose to listen to. Some people have enough reality in their daily lives and don't need more of it in their music. Life is not roses for the 99%
That's pretty the only reason I've hated all of ny past jobs. It's always the same meaningless junk. Not a single ounce of originality.
Not every person needs to be uplifted with false positivity, I see no relevance of someone's view on rear sizes or the temperature of the club they frequent to my life or my spirit. When shit happens I would rather, you know, deal with it than seek support from someone who gets paid to spew nonsensical BS. That may not apply to a lot of people out there but that's why this is MY opinion...
Parenting: You're doing it right!
Rock on!!
my 2 month only settles to classic rock. it just means that you have an awesome kid :)
