Today my mother met my in-laws for the first time. She had been an alcoholic and had us sent to foster care 15 years ago. My husband told his parents this behind my back a while ago. When they asked her about it, she denied everything. His entire family now thinks I lie for attention. FML

Just explain to them that your mom feels bad about it, and felt pressured when they brought up bad times from the past.They shouldn't have been so nosy anyways. Fyl op

your bfs parents are assholes. of all things to talk about they decide to bring that up??? hopefully your bf isnt such a douche. he needs to teach his parents a thing or two about tact and sensitivity. i dont envy your position at all.

This is wrong on so many levels. Your husband shouldn't have betrayed your trust, that was the worst thing. Your in-laws should not have asked your mom about such a sensitive topic, especially not when meeting her for the first time. And of course it's sad that your mom denied it, but honestly, I doubt she wants to talk about something like that....It was inappropriate of them to ask in the first place.
