Today, I realized that even though I was an honor student throughout school, and considered the golden child who was going to go far in life, all I've accomplished a year after graduation is becoming an unemployed single mother still living with my parents. FML

Today, once again, my mom ranted about how she sacrificed so much for me by moving to a better city. I said it was for my education and to stop making me feel like a burden. She scoffed, "Right, you never should've been born. My mistake." FML

Today, despite me being a master-level carpenter, and my art sells for thousands, I heard my mom telling her snobby friends how embarrassed she is of me because I’m “basically unemployed” and waste my time on “hobby crafts” like a teenage nerd instead of getting “a real job” and finding a wife. FML

Today, my mother yet again went on a long rant about how much of a loser I am as I have "never had boyfriend" and I'm 26. Truth is, I've been in the same relationship for over five years but it "doesn't count because he's black." FML

Today, and for the past 3 years since I first started looking for work, my mother has once again cussed me out and called me "ungrateful" because I tried to get a job. She won't let me get my ID, and she will only apply to jobs around our tiny town that she "feels like doing." We're about to lose our home. FML

Today, whilst on a phone interview with a college I really want to go to, my mother picks up the other line and shouts into the phone "She's not going to college, she's lazy and she'll only disappoint you." The interviewer hung up before I could say anything. FML

Today, my mother told me to 'quit having a pity party'. I was just diagnosed with depression. I've lost my boyfriend, my job, my academic standing, and I just got rejected from every graduate school I applied for. And my mother thinks I'm a cry baby. Great. FML

I hope you know better that you are a person worthy of acclaim, love, recognition, approval. Surround yourself with people who appreciate you for the wonderful, accomplished, caring, successful individual you are. Acknowledge and affirm to yourself, repeatedly and often, that even if no one, your mother, especially, is willing to see and recognize all those admirable qualities that make you the the success that you are, that you have YOU in your corner. Move ever forward, head high, ignoring those who would jealously strive to bring you down.

No matter how content one is with life, there will be those out there who will try to knock you down, whether it be out of jealousy, boredom, etc. OP, you know you are doing much better than most people at your age, so you should be proud of it. If she keeps on calling to degrade you, perhaps you should consider blocking her number?
