Today my neighbor's asked me to feed their two horses while they go on vacation for a month. I happily agreed. As they were getting in the car to drive off, they added, "Oh, and water the plants!" They have six acres. FML

OP here. here's more info: of course the pasture the horses were in didn't need to be watered, and they had two lawns with sprinkles. The majority of the rest of the property was newly planted vegetable gardens. They were in the process of installing a watering system and it wasn't hooked up yet. Everything was being watered with hoses. Btw, how the hell did you guys come up with house plants? I didn't have access to the house, and why would I mention six acres if I was talking about indoor plants? Come on, people. I did call my neighbor's after they pulled this and they explained that husband thought wife had told me already while wife assumed husband had told me. They didn't realize their mistake until they were about to pull away. So, innocent mistake, but had they told me sooner I would have had the chance to mention I've never been able to keep a plant alive. :(

Hopefully with that much land it's as simple as turning on a sprinkler system. I can't imagine they hand-water all of it. Best of luck!

as they were driving off you should have yelled, oh hell no.

If they have horses, part of that land would be pasture and doesn't get watered. I'd assume they meant indoor/outdoor potted plants. Fields take care of themselves waterwise, usually, unless their is an irrigation sysytem, unlikely, which would be easy to use. And 6 acres isn't that much land of they were farming. Gardening is possible but if they were gardening, you'd get more instructions than just water the plants, as something would need harvested during the month.

Maybe they meant the houseplants? Seems unfair to drop acres of watering on someone!

Im pretty sure the means the ones inside

do you think maybe they meant their house plants instead of the ones outside?

IMO, they asked you to feed the horses which you agreed to. They threw in the plants at the last minute, which you did not agree to so you don't have to do it and I wouldn't. And it's not like they could sue you or take any legal action for it. You might make them angry a little but they shouldn't have sprung it on you at the last minute.

That seems extreme to me. It's likely a few potted house plants. Just dump some water on them and carry on. It wouldn't be terribly time consuming. It's so much easier to be nice to people than get mean, vindictive, stubborn, rude, or passive aggressive. I personally tend to do the little extras even without ibeing asked. l

Given the fact that OP threw in that they have six acres of land, I doubt that they were referring to a few house plants, like everyone else seems to think. OP's neighbors could have actually asked OP to water their six acres when they asked OP about the horses but they didn't. It was a jerk move and OP shouldn't have to be responsible for something that was dumped on them at the last minute.

Id just worry about the horses and if they say anything about the plants say you didnt hear them

Just water a few flowers by their front door. The rest are not flowers, they are weeds.
