Today my neighbor's asked me to feed their two horses while they go on vacation for a month. I happily agreed. As they were getting in the car to drive off, they added, "Oh, and water the plants!" They have six acres. FML

OP here. here's more info: of course the pasture the horses were in didn't need to be watered, and they had two lawns with sprinkles. The majority of the rest of the property was newly planted vegetable gardens. They were in the process of installing a watering system and it wasn't hooked up yet. Everything was being watered with hoses. Btw, how the hell did you guys come up with house plants? I didn't have access to the house, and why would I mention six acres if I was talking about indoor plants? Come on, people. I did call my neighbor's after they pulled this and they explained that husband thought wife had told me already while wife assumed husband had told me. They didn't realize their mistake until they were about to pull away. So, innocent mistake, but had they told me sooner I would have had the chance to mention I've never been able to keep a plant alive. :(

Hopefully with that much land it's as simple as turning on a sprinkler system. I can't imagine they hand-water all of it. Best of luck!

That's a huge dick move, just don't do it, that'll show him.

I'm sorry, OP, but you're being totally silly. The six acres are probably gonna water themselves by natural way. You were asked to water their plants. Inside their home. Please use your common sense.

I mentioned six acres because they meant outside. I did not have access to their house. How's that common sense working out for you?

If they're not talking about inside plants and you have to hand water plants across all 6 acres I would be telling them they better be paying you for all the extra work you didn't agree to do. And they pretty much owe you whenever you need a favor or go out of town now.

I am my neighbors' go to person for horse care too since I have a horse of my own. I've done it quite a bit so far this year, but they pay well and their horses are super easy. If they told me to water the plants, I would assume they meant their little herb garden and flowerbeds down by the barn and the large garden by the house as well as any other maintained flowerbeds around the property. If they left you a key, then indoor plants too. I would never assume they meant the whole property. I would also hope you have their number so you can call them in case one of their horses colicked or went lame or something. Call them and ask what plants they meant. Anyone leaving pets with someone else should leave a phone number. It is especially important with horses. There is a reason they say that horses wake up in the morning looking for ways to kill themselves.

Are you sure they weren't referring to the plants INSIDE the house?

Hopefully you can contact them and ask what they mean... maybe they just want their indoor plants watered. Otherwise you better start doing some rain dances!

Just don't water the plants, and say you didn't hear them. Feed the horses though.

here's what you do now, ignore that since they wasn't the original deal and when they come back to yell at you about why you didn't water their plants you say "oh I thought you said to pull up my pants"
