Today, my oldest son answered my phone call much to my surprise as we haven't spoken in a year. The first words out of his mouth were, "I didn't mean to pick up the phone." He then hung up. FML

Today, I called my dad, because I haven't spoken to him in a while, and I wanted to invite him to my graduation in May. When he picked up, I said, "Hey, how have you been, dad?" He scoffed, "Wrong number" and hung up the phone. FML

Today, I got a missed call from my dad, who hasn't talked to me in months and has vowed not to have anything to do with me. I called him back excitedly and apologized for missing his call, and we had a 20-second conversation about how his phone accidentally dialed my number. FML

Today, after months of job hunting, I finally got a phone call. They were impressed with me. That's when my son decided to throw a tantrum asking for food. After some silence, the caller told me they were looking for someone who wasn't juggling little kids at home and hung up. My son is 20. FML

Yeah, I love how everyone on here is blaming the OP for their son being a jerk - Yes, OP may have done something to his son that upset him so badly they haven't spoken for a year, or the son may just be an idiot who blew some little event way out of proportion and decided never to speak to his dad again. Or they could be both at fault for this. OP - I would suggest you send your son a letter or something (try not to use emotional blackmail, it just pisses people off). Apologise for whatever you did wrong or, if you don't know what the problem is, ask him. In my experience, letters are generally better than phone for this kind of conversation; there's no pressure on your son to respond if he doesn't want to (unlike a phone call), and you and he can both take the time to think about what to say to each other.

There really isn't enough information to judge this situation. The dad could have done something really awful to his son which may be hard to forgive or impossible to forgive.. you never know. They may have already discussed what happened and the son decided he wanted to cut his father out of his life completely. I wouldn't be saying the son is an asshole or that the dad is an asshole. They both could be assholes!

Whatever, my biological father is a loser and I'd do that to him too. Not saying you are, but seeing it from the kid's perspective gives me a lot less sympathy for estranged parents. Chances are, you deserve it.
