Today, my parents continue comparing me to my "perfect" friend. He smokes dope, is a compulsive thief, and has gone to juvie numerous times. I'm passing school with flying colors and have never been in any trouble with the law. Apparently I should be more like him. FML

Your parents have a very unique definition of "perfect". Keep doing what you're doing OP.

My parents do this all the time. They compare to kids who are twice as bad as me

I wonder what makes them think this friend of yours is so perfect. Is he a compulsive liar also?

They must be hippies. No one cares about filthy hippies.

Maybe he's just more polite than you are.

Don't get discouraged man good job on passing all your courses and being a model citizen. It's too bad that your parents compare you to someone like that when you're a lot better than the other person. I think they need to pull their heads out of their butts. But that's just my opinion. Keep up the good work dude

Why can't parents just be content with their kids?

You list the bad side of your friend since you seemingly lost the comparison on the good side. What positive aspects do Ur parents like about the kid?

There two ways you can live life. 1.) following the mold of someone else and be a copy 2.) be who you are. I use to try to pass myself off as a horse, but people use to tell me, "Oh you're just and ass, you're a worthless lesser of a horse, blah blah blah." & one day I realized that yeah I might not be black stallion, I don't need to act like a horse to be a noble steed, because dammit I am a noble steed!!! We are all different for a reason, and those differences is what makes this world better (at least Duloc ☺️) There was a quote a wise being told me..."When you're living your life following behind someone every step, you become an annoying nuisance." -shrek

Those were the days... I never thought I'd say this but my ass use to be a pain in my ass... It's not shrek is love, it's ass is love❤️

What in the hell is wrong with your parents and their definition of perfect?! Well, after you finish passing school with flying colors, at least you won't have to deal with them anymore as you take on a job and become successful and your bad little friend's life falls apart. That is, if it was ever a stable thing. I respect you for sticking to your own, healthy standards. Keep ignoring your parents' ideas of perfection and you'll turn out just fine.
