Today, my parents told me that I had been accepted into my top two colleges, but they didn't show me the letters because they were worried that if they spent money on tuition, they wouldn't be able to keep BOTH of their brand new Mercedes. FML

haha, yeah i'm the OP. didn't know you need an account to comment...but I just wanted to clear up something. I didn't want my parents to pay, a simple "you got in" would have been nice. I was planning on doing ROTC and letting Uncle Sam handle my tuition.

That is so selfish. Take a Mercedes and just go.

I can't begin understand how a parent could put something like that above their own child's future, let alone lie about it.

yes they dont have to but what good parents hide there childs form. i would move out op.

No offense, but your parents are both selfish pricks

It feels like people don't realize how much student loan debt is hamstringing the last couple of generations. People are graduating from school with a degree and then unable to find a job in their field and actually USE the degree. Thus they get stick in a minimum wage or barely more job, with 30 grand of debt to pay off.

Pay for your own college. Loans grants and scholarships should be available.

I get a Pell Grant due to low income and having a child. I am currently going to community college while working part time and take care of my daughter. Before I was pregnant, I was figuring out how I can go to college or at least community, but when I apply for the pell grant then I was deny because I was still living with my parents ( I was 18) and they went by their income which is a lot. No, my parents wasn't going help me on paying for school. I could have apply for student loans, but I didn't want to go to school and graduate with a lot of debt. That's the last thing I wanna put myself through. I was going sign up for the Navy or Marines, but then I found out I was pregnant and that was put off. I was working around that too, making 400 every two weeks... Even with making that much, wouldn't had allow me to pay for my classes and books. All of this, I have decided to set up a fund for my daughter for college. I am going save much as possible in helping her to pay for school. Last thing I want her to have is students loans and not able to repay all of it back. It's selfish of them holding back information from you and causing an issue. It is selfish of them thinking of their self over their son.

Op never said he wanted his parents to pay!! He is mad because they didn't tell him he got in!

your parents are selfish assholes, I understand them not wanting to pay tuition but not giving you your mail can be a serious crime if you didn't live with them

The way ROTC works is you get a scholarship(contract) for 3 or 4 years. This means they pay for school every semester until you graduate and then you give your 4 years back in the military. The only reason they would stop paying for you is if you are a retard and did something stupid; breaking the contact
