Today, my roommate's noisiest cat passed away. My previously-silent cat has decided that someone has to fill the void, and has been running around the apartment howling ever since. FML

It's likely because your cat misses the other cat. My cat did the same thing for a few days after our other cat passed away. Vets suggest allowing other pets to see/sniff the deceased pet so that they have a better understanding of why they are gone.

Its possible that the cat is grieving as well. maybe a new pet is in order. That way you have happy cats and plus, cats just make everything better (:

Aww he misses his buddy. My chihuahua was the same way when my cat passed away, she was very vocal and clearly upset.

Poor kitty just misses its friend :(

This usually happens when there are 2 or more cats around for a period of time and If one of them goes missing, the other one starts meowing :3

This FML is so sad. Poor kitty.

RIP Howling Cat. May your howls never be in vain

Both mine and my sister's cats did that when their kittens died. My sister's cat decided to cope by kitten napping my cats kittens. My cat responded my smacking the shit out of her. Both got really depressed when their babies died and kind of did this sad thing where they searched the house for them.

What sort of horrible pet owners are you?!

The cats were really young, they managed to sneak out and it was a first litter for both. Not every kitten in a litter is going to survive, but my sister's cat only had two kittens, so they couldn't keep each other warm. Thats why kittens snuggle in big kitten piles. They were also several weeks early. Now my cats kittens died from various causes, one wasn't feeding, two got too cold, one died in its sleep. And it was tragic, and I was heartbroken that my babies died, but 3 week old kittens won't always live, especially if the mom stops feeding them.

I probably could have explained that in the first place though.
