Today, my sister finally broke down and told me that our dad gambled away of all my college savings, and I would have to pay for school the best way I can. They have known for months, and when I asked why nobody told me, the reply was, "You're a college boy, we thought you would figure it out." FML

Dude I have no pity for you. Unless you worked your butt off and earned that money yourself you really have no room to be upset. Also I'm pretty sure you've known your dad has a gambling problem and should have saved something on your own and not depended on a college fund! I've been working since I was 16 and I've bought my own car, paid for college on my own, and live on my own no help from mommy an daddy. I'm a girl and got bigger balls then you do!

It was a one/two-year joke program too, wasn't it? Paying for a DECENT education isn't easy, and a kid should be able to trust his parents to be responsible. It's obvious he didn't foresee this type of behavior from his dad. Even working through college, I still have bills up the wazoo and I had to buy my own cars, too. You may think you're a hot shot, but you're no better than he is. No believable job at 16 is going to put a noticeable dent in it, either, unless you were a stripper/*****. Grow some empathy.

How horrible. Your dad's also a horrible bitch for not manning up and telling you himself. Kids should be able to depend on their parents without them ******* up with their life. College tuition is serious business, and him selfishly taking the money meant for you to better your life, just so he can have some fun, is unfathomable.

In all technicality, your dad doesn't OWE you a college fund. What he does owe you is some advance warning that you have to pay for everything yourself, you know... considering he told you otherwise. If you're going to scold him for this, focus on his fatherly responsibilities instead of the money itself. "Gimme money" isn't well received and almost never works against an authoritative figure.

Your dad needs help dealing with his gambling problem, but you should pay for your own college education anyway. Work hard, study hard..

Its messed up that he did that no doubt but what's really f*cked up is that they didn't tell you. FYL bro sorry

That's BS. I hate your parents. Why would they **** up with someone's education like that. They are dumb. Welcome to the college life. I recommend you get your AA at a community college to save money and then transfer. I had to do this because my "wonderful" parents didn't want to pay college and now I am suffering. You can do it. But when you get your degree make sure you don't give a single dime to your parents. That's what they get dumb asses..

Taking money from your parents for college is for pansies

So now you can take his money and just say "what about my college money??!"

at least your family had enough money to save up for that. most of us college students have to work our asses off to even pay for one semester. be happy you have what you do. this post doesn't gain any sympathy from me. grow some balls and start working for your future, not waiting for a handout.
