Today, my sister finally broke down and told me that our dad gambled away of all my college savings, and I would have to pay for school the best way I can. They have known for months, and when I asked why nobody told me, the reply was, "You're a college boy, we thought you would figure it out." FML

I'm really sorry. I hope things look up!

So sorry to hear! There is all kinds of financial aid out there! Government grants are the best, but you might be able to get scholarships and you may have to work your way through as well! Don't give up!

Some of you people need to brush that chip off your shoulder. I have a lot of students who work their tails off to save for college and their parents take it from them for drugs and gambling. Quit assuming, grab a box of Kleenex and stop projecting.

That's not so bad.. My parents aren't paying for my school; it's called a loan.

Unless the issue is you passed the deadline to apply for loans or financial aid.

OP, does your family love you? I mean, are your father stupid?

the smart thing to do would have been to see if your bank has(i forget what it's called) a system that only allows you and your family to put money in, not take any out, until you reach a certain age. then when you reach that age you're the only one with access to it. i really feel sorry for you OP, you're not the only one who's been screwed over by their parents. i once got $5k from a train wreck settlement, and my mom spent it on useless shit. now, i wouldn't have minded so much her spending it all, but she didn't even let me get the one thing i wanted, which was a Winchester .30-30 lever action rifle. she just went on a spending spree and bought her ******* homeschool curriculum, most of which we never used and ended up being given away. but now you've been given an opportunity for revenge. he gambled away your college fund, and some day you'll be able to gamble away his retirement fund :D
