Today, my sister told my mother how she saw our neighbour's son at the movies with a girl and that they were kissing. My mother said that any girl willing to date someone so ugly must have self esteem issues and they laughed. I'm his girlfriend, my sister didn't recognize me. FML

Hey update for everyone: I decided "surprise" my mother and sister by inviting my new boyfriend over for dinner but didnt say who it was. When he came through the door and I introduced him as my boyfriend they stared shocked at me realizing that they had put their feet in their mouths. And just to add a little more salt to their wounds, I kissed him, smiled sweetly at him and asked my sister and mother "So, what do you think of him again? Im sure he would like to know if you approve." Needless to say they got the hint that not only do I not have low self esteem but I am VERY PROUD to be his girlfriend lol btw they havent talked crap about him since!

OP: it's great that you eventually stood up to them and showed how proud of your boyfriend you are. Kudos for that. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that your mom and sister were shallow enough in the first place to make rude, unwarranted, possibly unfounded comments about anyone's appearance or personality. Good luck dealing with that.

Glad to hear you were able to throw a mirror to their idiocy. I've had a few girls question my sanity when I didn't reciprocate the attention of a "hot" guy, and because those I am interested in are (in their eyes) anything but. It's nice to see that there are still a few girls left who care more about substance than skin. Far too many people are absolutely blind to the fact that people can *become* attractive to you when there is something substantial within. I don't return the attention of the attractive but dumb lot because I don't need to. The ones I am attracted to for other reasons initially will end up attractive to me physically in the end anyway. For the record, it must be satisfying to know that your mother probably feels like an arse, and is more than likely embarrassed by her own shallowness.
