don't judge a fish by how well it can climb a tree...
Grades are not representative of intelligence. Your son isn't stupid, he's unmotivated.
Try private school it works for me it challenges you in the classroom and in after school activities in a supportive environment
he ever considered a career in IT?
Yeah, the whole "If you do poorly in school, you must be super smart because Einstein did poorly in school too" argument is pretty flawed. Sure, it's the case for some, but don't assume your kid failing automatically means he's a genius. I'm guessing the kid "hacked" the computers by finding a teacher's password.
He's not stupid he's either bored or lazy.
It doesn't matter how smart he is if he's too lazy to do anything productive with his intelligence. Does he think as an adult he'll get paid for knowing how to do his job but not actually doing it?
Grades do not define intelligence. You can be a total idiot but get straight A's
Shit wish i knew how to hack my midterm grades!

You might want to look into private school or advanced placement classes, or something along those lines. I'm sure this sounds presumptuous, and I'm sorry for that in advance, but it sounds like his current school situation isn't challenging him enough.
I tend to agree with #1 on this one. I've known a lot of genius kids in my life. Most of them got horrible grades despite being smarter than anyone around them. A gifted program may be helpful in challenging your child and motivating them to do better.
