Today, my students all handed in their 1,000 word papers. The assignment was for them to write about a strong, benevolent leader who influenced the world. Around half of the papers were about Hitler. FML

My friend had a project in his AP history class that was titled 'Yay Hitler!'

>Implying he wasn't. His views may have been messed up, but as a person he was pretty chill.

How do you separate his views from his personality?

Yeah, Hitler killed a lot of people, but he was such a chill guy so it's alright. /Sarcasm

If your idea of "laid-back" includes spreading hate and misery to the entire world, by all means, stay the **** away from me #42.

Well he did mean well, he wished for his country to be free and the world to me unified

Well, if you asked him and his followers, I guess they'd claim he was quite benevolent. You know, freeing Germany from the poisonous influence of inferior and sick people and elevating the Aryan race to a more prosperous and strong standard, ensuring the survival of the fittest and a healthy, racially pure society. So either you have a bunch of budding Nazis in your class, or they're too lazy to actually read the assignment. Enjoy.

Hitler 100% was a strong leader who influenced the world. He was also evil and changed the world for the worse. I'm guessing those students were stupid and didn't know what benevolent means, not that they thought hitler was a great guy. Or they could be complete supremacist assholes.

I guess they just didn't know what benevolent means.

Benevolent - someone who is kind, caring, helpful, and is generally goodhearted. Malevolent - the opposite of benevolent, someone who is cruel, unkind, hurts others, and is generally evil. Are half the students Nazis or did they get the two words mixed up? Either way, I think we're doomed. O_O

Swing and a miss. Sounds like they need a vocabulary class.
