Today, my teenage daughter faked a suicide because I bought her a Samsung instead of an iPhone for her birthday. FML

Everyone is saying to take the phone away or to switch it off, (With A Side Dish of Discipline and Counseling) but how about OP doesn't remove or replace the phone, but cuts the plan. No contact and no use, and she'll have to see it everyday.

Definitely deserved. Kids don't become like that for no reason - although there are exceptions.

I have a Samsung and I LOVE it. Personally, I dont like iPhones, but no matter what that is NO REASON TO FAKE A SUICIDE. For God's sake, if she didnt like the gift, she could have been honest and asked if she could have traded it in.

Exactly. I had an S3 for two years, and am now using an iPhone (it was free). Not being able to get the phone I actually wanted did not kill me. I'm dealing with it. The girl should just consider herself lucky that her parents would buy her something as expensive as a Samsung!

You should show her how serious this actually is and check her into a psych-hospital until they think she is safe and sane. This needs to be addressed by a professional.

YDI kids don't get that spoiled without a LOT of help from their parents. Take back the phone and let her buy her own if it's that important to her. Use the money to buy yourself some parenting lessons.

It might be the other parent who spoils her, which is especially easy if the don't live together. Many divorced parents spoil their kids, especially the parent who has them the least amount of time. Or she just hang with a horrible crowd, and because her friends get everything she expects it too.
