Today, one of my cats gave birth. My other cat responded by eating the new litter in a jealous rage, then got indigestion and vomited. I had to clean up regurgitated kittens. FML

Just to clarify a few things: my two adult cats (the mother and the baby-eater) are sisters. I had planned to have them both spayed a few months ago but the baby-eater was very unwell at the time, so I decided to postpone the spaying for both of them so that I could eventually get them both done at the same time. By the time the unwell cat had recovered the other had already snuck out of the house and fallen pregnant, so I resigned myself to letting her have the kittens and then taking them both to be fixed. That's how this situation happened. To those questioning whether I was aware of the potential danger, yes I was, but the mother cat is usually dominant to her sister and intimidates her a lot, so I assumed she'd chase her away if she tried to go near the newborns. Instead she seemed indifferent to the situation and simply stood by while her sister killed the litter. As for why I did not intervene, I was not in the room at the time. I entered the room and saw the cat had given birth, then exited the room to go and fetch her some extra food and water. When I returned I found the sister in the room with blood around her mouth, half a leg on the floor, and the mother sitting off to one side washing herself. As I stared at the scene in a mixture of surprise and revulsion, the killer began coughing violently then vomited. So that's how you came to read about this event. As for those suggesting I should punish the killer in some way, I am not going to. She was just acting on instinct, like all non-human animals do. And I think that's all I have to say for now. Sorry for the long comment.

If you've never eaten someone you were jealous of, you're not truly living.

1. You have cats (being responsible for you animals) 2. You haven't fixed the cats 3. You allowed the cat to get impregnated 4. You didn't separate the cat when nearing delivery 5. You didn't provide a separate, secured area for the mother and kittens for the first few weeks 6. You allowed others cat(s) to gain access to the litter 7. You didn't supervise the new mother and kittens Just a few things that scream YOU DESERVE IT!

Maybe OP didn't allow her cat to get pregnant, maybe it was an out door cat. Maybe OP had to go to the store and the kittens were born when OP was away? You can't judge someone in this situation based on the FML. There is too much information missing

Cats should be neutered, ESPECIALLY outdoor cats. Why? To avoid animal homelessness. You would say: but everyone want kittens, I'll find them a new home! Well, that's not that simple. It's actually really hard. And even you'll find people who will adopt them... How can you be sure they won't leave them one day? People, please, THINK! Sterilise animals!

I assume from the context of this FML that it was an indoor cat. Though, OP certainly did allow this to happen, by not seperating the mother.

I'm so glad you got to know the OP's circumstances before you made this post. How awful that she is an ill-educated, destitute cat-lady with delusions of hosting some sort of free-feline-love breeding sanctuary. People, if you are in good circumstances to raise animals, don't go sterilising them.

#15 female cats ALWAYS find a safe place to deliver their kittens, if OP's male cat found them, then it's not his/her fault. We didnt even know our cat was pregnant until I felt her tummy one day. The kittens didnt make it, and all of our cats ate the kittens.

but the poor kittens didnt deserve it!! :(

63- no, op is the reason cat sanctuaries exist. Cats as massively over populated and should not be bred period, but someone who obviously knows so little about cats for this to happen, screams irresponsible pet owner, not professional breeder. Why should people not allow uncontrolled breeding, regardless of circumstance? There is already a shortage of homes. The only place they are supplying is research labs with test subjects. Most pet owners don't keep the entire litter... If they keep any at all. So op is now adding to an already huge problem. I would much rather see a crazy destitute cat lady that op. know why? Those people actually take better care of their cats often, sharing everything, going without food themselves to make sure their cats are cared for.

Okay, firstly, I am a relatively experienced cat owner, having owned fourteen in total. I know what I'm doing and have bred cats before, so why don't you actually read the extra details I've provided as to how this situation occurred before you judge me? In the past I have taken measures to protect litters born to subordinate females from infanticide, but in this case the mother cat was the dominant female and the killer was a subordinate who generally avoids contact with her dominant sister, so I trusted the dominant female to be able to protect her own litter without my assistance. If she had no interest in doing so and willingly allowed a beta female to kill her kittens then that is not my fault. Believe it or not, I posted this story so that people like you could enjoy a bit of gallows humour, which is what this site is for. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered, seeing as a fair few people seem to want to accuse me of this and that when they know nothing about me or the circumstances in which the events occurred. Yes, it was an unpleasant event, but that's life, and FML is supposed to be a way for us all to grin at our misfortunes and move on with things. If you don't appreciate this site's purpose and you also can't be bothered to listen to the whole story of an FML when an OP provides it then kindly don't comment on my FMLs. Thank you.

I don't think you deserve it at all. It's so awful. I'm sorry for the poor kittens and FYL. Also, I wonder why the mother cat didn't defend the poor babies :( ugh I love cats and this is just too sad

YDI for not only not having your cats spayed/neutered but also for not keeping the other cat away.

You're supposed to keep kittens away from adult animals besides the mother.

Actually it does happen quite often. There's a reason your supposed to give mama and her babies a safe place. Cats are not the only animal that will do this either.

Have you never seen lions on Discovery?

actually, it does happen quite often. the male, or any other cats, will cannibalize the newborns. it's a territory thing.

Some cats will even eat their own babies. Crazy!!

Damn.. Looks like that litter is going in the litter.

I'm telling you Cats are evil.

Not all cats do that and almost every other species of animal does the same.

This is probably the most disturbing thing I have read on this site. Period.

Well, that's just awful. That really is a catastrophe.. :/ super crazy and sad. Damn cats are evil!

Wow, this may be the first FML in history without cheesy cat puns
