Earplugs. They were invented for a reason
We'll have you and your roommates considered using adult diapers? Just securely fasten the diaper with the easy Velcro tapes around your roomies head - even a light sleeper should sleep like a baby though the night. The diaper should muffle the noise of everything from toilet flushing to late night parties.
We do this in my family so it doesn't wake anyone up
Man that sucks. Luckily, you're an adult and can go to the bathroom when you please. Buy him some ear plugs and hope he's not too pissy ;)
I guess I'll be the devil's advocate here, but there's always another side to the story. I, too, am a relatively light sleeper. Not so much so when I've already fallen asleep, but it's the falling asleep that I really struggle with. I also work a vastly different shift pattern than the rest of my house and my room just happens to be next to the bathroom. During 'day hours' it will set off a pump (which I'd actually prefer as it's further and quicker, but as it's next to two other rooms, it's shut off for the night) and during night hours it will drip for exactly two minutes which I can hear. I can also hear the floor, the door and the light. I am decent enough person not to tell my house mates not to pee at night, because I mean, if you need to, you need to, but it's a HUGE inconvenience for me, and I'd rather them not flush or use the downstairs bathroom. Earplugs don't do it for me and when I've just about to fall asleep and I have to hear something dripping for 2 minutes I'm immediately awoken. This was not an issue when I moved as different people lived there and for multiple reasons I currently can't move. So, as much as I understand your house mate seems ridiculous to you, this is probably a huge problem for them, so try to see it from their POV!
you can hear light? i think you mean you hear them turn it on or does it buzz
It's the same for me! But in addition we also have a fan in the bathroom which no one thinks to turn off at night since the switch is really high up. So I can hear their room door opening, bathroom door, turning on the light, the fan, the flush and water running. Sadly one of my flatmates doesn't care what time it is, she will walk back and forth to the bathroom. It's really frustrating trying to get to sleep in such conditions, so I feel you!
#32, obviously they meant the switch. In the same sentence they also mentioned hearing the floor and door, which as inanimate objects, don't actually make noises unless the floor creaks when walked on and the door is closed noisily.
i would just say he has to flush it then if he wants people to make that much of an effort for him, or he can suck it up
I think it's time to find a new flatmate.
As a person that lives below a bathroom, I asked them not to flush it after 11 and before 6. This is a fair request because some toilets are super loud and even with earplugs I can hear it. Before I asked them to stop I tried everything but they would flush it at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in the morning and I could not sleep at all. You guys should be more understanding of the roommate as well, what if you were them? would you want to listen to a toilet flush everyday and be woken up by it? No, you would do the same thing as them.
Roommates can be crazy sometimes. I had one who ordered me to flush only after going #2. I didn't follow this rule - it's ridiculous and we had different bathrooms.

If the majority of y'all have a problem tell him his request inconveniences everyone else so either he finds a way to deal with it such as earplugs or headphones or he can find another place to live.
Kick him out. Why the hell would you stay with a roommate that disrespects even your basic needs? No roommate is better than a selfish jerkwad of a one
