I think the FML here is not that the OP didn't have a date for prom, but more that the teacher assumed she wouldn't be going at all - implying the teacher believes not only that she can't get a date, but also that she has no friends who'd want to go with her. Anyway, I'm still surprised she's allowed to ask you to babysit...
Ouch! Well, prom isn't that great anyways. Way over rated, and over done.
wait is that legal for a teacher to ask you to babysit?
oh man, you know, because prom is couples only, because everyone in the entire school except you is dating someone all at the exact same time. get over it. go by yourself, with some friends. if you wanted to go to prom so bad you're gonna be pissy over it then you would've gone anyways.
Oh whatever. I went to prom, all four years! Now, the local high schools give kids a patch, like for a letter jacket, if they go to Prom all four years. How creepy is that? Now I will admit, I was in prom court senior year, dating a, gasp, 16 year old, sophomore, so I was pretty ostracized by my fellow prom court. So, IMO, prom is something you should at least do once. Things like that teach you how to interact in social settings. That's an important skill as an educated adult. Plus, you have to hold your liquor. Another timeless lesson in life.
Maybe she heard from someone else that you weren't going?
steal from her house
YDI for writing "their"
my school wouldn't let us go to prom unless we had a date... either way, that really sucks.
that sucks, well, there are better things to do then to get drunk with all your friends btw, how ugly are you?

I'm confused. Unless you're not a senior (well even that depends on where you live), why would you need to be invited?
Duuudee that sucks.
