YDI for being French
Happened to me. I found it quite funny to actually happen, as I thought it was an urban myth. I was a bit amazed that they actually found a working whiteboard marker. Told the students I liked the joke; reminded them that once is funny, twice is boring and thrice is bullying (I'm having a bit of a crackdown on "only joking" as an excuse for poor behaviour). Then I asked the shortest kid in the class to erase it -- that got a laugh -- and then I seriously asked the tallest kid. They're teenagers and of course they're going to be full of beans. Being a step ahead is part of the challenge and fun of teaching. (This isn't to say they we don't all have FML moments. My class were examining blood under the microscope and one group of students had finished with the provided sample and were using menstrual blood they'd sourced in ways I don't care to think about. Learning - yes, good scientific spirit - yes, bound to cause me trouble with the we-know-how-to-do-your-job-better-than-you-do parents - oh yes.). Anyway, I'm sorry it upset you. But I do wonder if you shouldn't look to your classroom management style and find space for kids to be kids whilst retaining a focus on learning. They're always going to find a way to tease you for physical aspects (I'm fit, so they pretend I work weekends as a male stripper, a joke that has gone on for so many years that some newer staff half-believe it). If you sweat light teasing you'll always be too easy to upset and they'll always push that button. I think an amount of teasing by students is actually a good release, since there's so much about teachers that students can't openly criticise despite us being in position of authority.
The illustration is like what someone would have done to Umbridge in her class if she wasn't magical and taught at a regular school.
It is not FYL, not YDI... But F*** that ass student!
Great illustration.
