pdin222 tells us more.
Well, where to start. First, the car is a 1995 Geo Prizm. For all of you saying, "Hey bro, should of called the dealer.", that's not possible, seeing as how they went out of business around a decade ago. It was after market junk a previous owner installed, ‘cause lord knows every kid on the block wanted a Geo Prizm, and it would have been stolen in a matter of seconds. The remote was pretty well destroyed when I go the car, and finally just fell apart on my key chain about six months ago. So no, I wasn't going to buy a new remote for my bups of a car. I finally found the theft system and just pulled it out. I now have it pierced on a stick in my front yard, to warn the other anti theft systems. Also, for those saying, "Your an idiot", it is you're, not your.

YDI because same thing would of happened if you had to replace the battery or disconnect the battery for a repair. You had 6 months to get a new remote from the dealer.
The remotes to my van have been broken of almost a year now. I haven't gotten them replaced because it would cost me several hundred dollars and there are a number of other more pressing & expensive problems that I've been having to fix first like the power steering, the transmission, the gas gauge, the A/C, and the list goes on. Maybe OP has a similar problem.
Maybe you shouldn't have bought such a crap car in the first place
I don't know about where your from but in Australia when your changing the battery or just disconnecting it in general there is a device you can connect to your car which will keep everything how it is. It's basically a memory saver thing.
I didn't buy it. It was given to my dad by a friend, who then gave it to me, because my job doesn't pay enough for me to afford a new one...yet.
Meh it could be worse you could be stuck somewhere remote. With no cable.
Every car alarm has a kill switch. Should have listened to your dealer explain that. Most likely it is under the steering wheel column (hidden somewhere). You need to turn the key to the accessory position then press the switch for 1 second. Release. The alarm should turn off and the car can start.
Not every car alarm has a kill switch. The only ones ive found with override switches are factory alarms fitted to kias. Majority have a temporary override function depending on the alarm. The most common being cycling the ignition on and off 10times quickly, taking the negative battery terminal with the ignition on for 1 min, or some older models where you short the flashing indicators. If its a factory fitted alarm (eg NATS) And you dont have the remote the only way of disarming it is with a scan tool.
For my Kia, all you had to do was unlock the drivers door manually to turn the alarm off.
Go into your car's fuse box located in the driver's side and pull out the fuse that belong to your car alarm
Dammit, another one deleted. Now I look like an idiot again. I'm on to you, mods
Yep. "The man" was too quick for us, maninthemachine.
Geniuses think a like.
I think that if you're gonna own a complex tool like a car then you've gotta be somewhat car savvy, no?
Came here to post this XD the car I have now was bought used and had some issue with the alarm apparently, as the fuse has been missing since the day I got it, the remote's never worked and some bright individual removed the light for the security system indicator from the dash. Now it just eats batteries instead, but at least I can drive it.
Are you upset, Sir? You wanna talk about it?
Well aren't you such a bad ass standing up to "the man." Yes, "the man" who rules this intangible web site with an iron fist and has absolutely no influence on your life whatsoever.
The environment thanks you
Well... Good luck with that ;)
I will never understand car alarm systems.

Well, you have had six months to get that remote fixed.... Often it's just that the batteries in these things become exhausted. Have you tried a new battery in the remote?
Did you pay the little extra for Roadside assistance?
