I cant believe how disrespectful some people are. Tattoos dont automatically make you a drug addict, or a bad person. Ridiculous.
I hate these people, i have a small tattoo on my wrist and I keep taking shit from people because of it, I don't regret getting the thing but people have to open their minds it's the21st century for heavens sake!
Why get tattoos in the first place if you know that they will decrease your chances of getting a job? Seriously. Just don't get tattoos. It's not that hard. If, say, you were not hired because you were black, that would be a different situation, because you cannot control the fact that you are black, but it was your decision, and yours alone, to get tattoos.
Tattoos are a form of personal expression, I have several, none of which have affected my job seeking anywhere. I think it is wrong to conform to the "norms" just so you can "fit in" and get a decent job. Tattoos are out there, more than a lot of people know, if you show up to an interview looking professional and are highly qualified, you will more than likely get the job you're seeking, tattoos or no. Sure, you could just not get tattoos, but then you're not being you for the sake of a job and may never be happy with your decision
This is why you shouldn't get tattoos you can't hide in a professional setting.
It is absolutely discrimination. You can go back and speak to the manager and tell them you will report them to the labor board. I took a course in personnel and this was an exact example used. They cannot refuse to accept an application based on your looks. You may have the perfect skills for the job and they would have missed out. The fact that you were will to wear a jacket to keep from offending others speaks volumes about your character. Yes you got tattoos because you like them. That is your right. You were not trying to ram them done their throats by baring them to all. I would have given you an application and read it to see if you had the skills. I am 55 years old and run a 3 million dollar company. Go back and stand you ground.
I commend you for your thinking. Many employers won't do that; it's time people stopped basing others off their (usually wrong) judgments.
I wish there were more bosses like you.
#178 > It is great to see that there are employers out there who actually look at people's skills instead of their appearance
I always wonder how some people get into management. People are so ignorant

Stereotypical much? Wow, that would be a shitty manager to work for...
That is rude for her to assume you're a drug addict because of tattoos. Some tattooed people I know are the nicest and best workers ever.
