Today, while I was working as a waitress, I had to wait on a table of 13 people. I was struggling through it and when they finally left I went by the table to pick up my tip. Instead of a money I got a napkin saying "Here's your tip, don't be a waitress." FML

Your restaurant doesn't add gratuity for parties of 8 or more? Most do, and this is why.

If you have ever worked in the restaurant industry, you'd realize this is a FML. No one deserves to get stiffed on a tip, especially for a party of 13. But like #3, why wasn't there gratuity added in?

My parents told me that everyone needs the experience of working fast food, being waitstaff, or working in a department store. it gives you respect for what these people actually do!

They should be lucky that they even let DOGS into the restaurant, and they probably were so mean about it cuz they were FEMALE ;P

I've waited tables and worked fast food and waiting tables is a hell of a lot more work than working the window at McDonald's! I've waited tables for 6 years and I am a damn good server. I've worked at 3 different restaurants waiting tables. I can say from experience no matter how good a server is; if you have a party of 13 and 4 or 5 other tables you are getting your ass handed to you. I do believe waiting tables is easy but it isn't for everyone. However; 15% is standard no matter what. If you got the food you asked for and you had a drink the entire time you should be tipping at least 15%. In most states servers are paid $2.13/hour; after taxes we do NOT get pay checks. We pay our bills, take care of our family's, and spend money though our tips. If you have service bad enough that you think leaving a "tip" on a napkin is acceptable you should speak to the manager about it not be a douche. Most places servers have to tip-out; meaning we give the money we earn to other people, ie: host, bartender, bussers, and dishwashers, so when you don't tip we still have to tip people for you eating meaning we make NEGATIVE money. If you can't afford to eat and tip you should not go eat in a restaurant. If you have outstanding service you should tip at least 20%. And just because you get food Togo does not mean you shouldn't tip. They still took your order, made sure it was out together correctly, and had to deal with you.

I'm sorry op, I deeply sympathize since I'm a new waitress, it's okay though, you'll get better

Not being funny, but I don't see how this is an FML.. I work in a restaurant in the UK and we simply don't expect tips. It's not because we do a bad job, but it's rude to assume that you get a tip just for waiting a table/serving drinks/running food, no matter how many people there are on the table. I know it's different in the US, tips are almost expected, but you only deserve a tip if you exceed a customer's expectations. Just start a conversation with people and show them a bit of attention, it's literally as easy as that... You do not deserve a tip just for doing your job, that's what your base pay is for.

You should have added in gratuity and should have also had another server helping you out. I bet none of them have ever worked in the restaurant industry and don't realize how hard it is to wait on a table that big.

Everyone should work in customer service at least once in their life. It will give them an appreciation of workers that serve the public.
