Today, while jogging in the park, I saw a man acting strange and trying to talk to 3 little girls. I jogged over to their mother and warned her about a 'weirdo' lurking around her daughters. Turns out that 'weirdo' is the woman's disabled brother. FML

I saw a man wearing a bike helmet, flailing his arms and following the little girls around. I kept jogging and saw a woman sitting on a park bench texting. She was completely out of site of the girls. I kindly asked her if she was their mother. When she replied 'yes', I told her that I saw a man talking to her daughters and that he looked like a weirdo...that's when she told me that the 'weirdo' was her disabled brother. I apologized to her and took off. I'm not a judgmental person; I was acting on my instincts as a woman to protect these young girls. Believe me, I'm mortified!!!

Dont feel bad, you had good intentions. :)

I mean, your intentions were pure. I'd rather that you help prevent a situation than you allowing something to happen.

It's the thought that counts?

at least you were trying to do the right thing:)

As long as you apologized I think she would of known that you were worried about her children's safety and everything would of been fine, rather than her thinking you were trying to offend her disabled brother.

That's when you mention that kids are most often abused by someone they know.

Wow. YDI. I don't care if I sound like a jerk but you shouldn't jump to conclusions next time. A 16 year old is walking with her one year old son. She's a **** for getting pregnant that early? How do you know she wasn't raped?

The worst is when it's a teen walking with her newborn sibling/cousin/whatever, and people start lecturing her on safe sex, or ****-shaming, because they assume it's her kid.

If I were that mother, I'd rather have someone accidentally tell me my disabled brother is a weirdo, but looking out for the safety of my children. You did the right thing!

Are you serious? What are they supposed to do? Observe him 30 minutes? They are not judgmental to think a man acting weird is acting weird. If anything you are the one who comes off as judgmental.

That's a tough place to be. You had the best of intentions, which is respectable, but at the same time, if the mother is close by enough for you to know she was the mother, the kids are probably safe. She's close enough to watch them and know when strangers approach. I guess YDI, but I definitely understand that protective side just jumping in.

See 97.. The OP sheds a bit more light on the subject
