I agree with #12! I run a haunted house and this weekend I was threatened by some "tough guy" for scaring the crap out of him. Haunted attractions are supposed to be enjoyable, you shouldn't go into one if you don't like the thrill of being scared. I wish OP would do a follow up because as far as I can see, FML for the kid, OP, YDI.
I admire your choice in going for the throat. Very effective.
As someone who works in a Halloween attraction I can safely say this kinda thing happens all the time, people just need to learn to control their "outbursts" when going through a haunt.
To be entirely honest, I have done this on more than one occasion.

I would assume being on a haunted trail triggered her defensive instincts, since she was probably scared and jumpy, thereby annihilating the poor kid's throat in mere seconds.
