Spanking is good when used sparingly and appropriately. Yelling can work the same way, when my sisters were younger my dad never yelled at them except in one instance when they were doing something dangerous. Since he never yelled it drove the point home. However I can tell you right now, don't let spanking get out of hand or let your own emotional state cause you to spank your children. When I was ages 5-11 my mom was depressed and we believe bipolar. For a year or two in that period one or more of us would get spanked 5 days out of the week for whatever reason. If it wasn't one thing it was another. She'd always find some reason. So we listened a lot less because we knew we'd get spanked anyway. I didn't know that's why I disobeyed then, it's looking back that I connected the dots. Outside of that year we got spanked less frequently but still far too often. I can never look at wooden cooking spoons today without thinking of spankings, since that was her tool of choice. We actually took to hiding it so she'd have to find something less painful. Interestingly once she went back to school and got a job, she almost completely stopped. The last time she tried it on me I was 16. I'd had enough and didn't let her. If you ask her today she will maintain that she only spanked us maybe twice a year. And that she needed to do it more. I have 6 sisters who all remember this so it isn't my memory blowing it out of proportion.

Time for a parental combo.. Ass beating, break his Xbox, reduce his room to nothing but a bed. No more sweets. Beverages reduced to water, password lock the computers. Anything else you can come up with
