Today, while studying liver pathology and highlighting important lines in my textbook, I realized that I could count the number of words I hadn't highlighted on one hand, over the last six pages. FML
I agree, your life sucks 20 434
You deserved it 8 894

Just go on and highlight the book at this point. It's all kind of important.

What grinds my gears is that the things I don't Highlight are the things I get tested on. I might as well just soak my book in highlighter since everything is important =_=

try using sparknotes or googling "(title of book) summary". ask your teacher what you think will be important to know - don't directly ask what'll be on the test. or ask a friend in the class what they think is important. hope this helps :3

Thanks 54, but I'd rather avoid generalized summaries on texts. It's not good to rely on something like sparknotes. Sparknotes is a handy tool if you read the text first because it can fill in the blanks but if you go straight to it instead of reading the actual text, you are cheating yourself out of learning. Hence, highlighting anything at that point would be pointless if people will be turning to online summaries.

That awful moment when you realize that you have to turn in the book again or pay for it because it has almost everything highlighted.

Have you been to college? You buy your textbooks in college! There's no "turning" them in unless, you sell them back! Then you'll get $3.00 for a $300.00 book!

At the university level and above, most people BUY their textbooks and keep several of them until long after they've graduated. Only rented textbooks need to be turned back in to the bookstore (and renting them is pointless because it costs almost the same as BUYING the book). This isn't high school where your books are issued to you by the school and have to be returned the way they were given to you.

I've done the same thing, many years ago in college! You don't even realize it until it's too late! Keep studying! Good luck in medical school!

Hm....I'm thinking about going to med school, not so sure. It seems like a lot of work. Hang in there! lol The book is probably all important.

That's what I do. Just highlight little bits and pieces. Don't focus on highlighting phrases and sentences in its whole. Just a couple key words that will help you remember.

LOL! I feel your pain. Guess that just shows you that you're gonna have to know it all! Is flashcards outdated bc I swear that helps me immensely with data like that.

I found that i use to highlight a significant portion of textbooks also, then i would read over the highlighted section for note taking and find that i only needed about half of what i highlighted. But Med School???!!!?!??! Just Highlight EVERYTHING. lol Good Luck!
