Today, while studying liver pathology and highlighting important lines in my textbook, I realized that I could count the number of words I hadn't highlighted on one hand, over the last six pages. FML

Just go on and highlight the book at this point. It's all kind of important.

time for a different study technique.... perhaps notes while reading?

Just get drunk and your liver will tell you all you need to know.

I totally understand getting carried away with highlighting, and I'm only in high school. But damn med school can only be worse. Best of luck on that liver pathology exam OP!

You know what's even worse? When you start typing your notes. You're going to end up typing the whole book. I'm a student too and I hate when this happens. But hey you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to beat the competition.

Haha should've crossed out unimportant stuff xD

everything in a textbook is important and needs to be highlighted and remembered

I would think quite a bit of thought went into writing it, and for the amount they charge for books in college the damn thing had better all be relevant!

Actually highlighting in general isn't an effective studying habit. Research shows it doesn't improve learning but instead improves recognition when reading the highlighted area over again. But when trying to recall the info later it is not very effective.
