Today, while walking down the street, a homeless man walked up to me. He opened his mouth to say something and I immediately said that I didn't have any spare change because I was late for work. He then said "I was gonna ask you for the time, dickwad". Apparently he wasn't homeless. FML

Today, I was going to volunteer at a soup kitchen. I saw a man working, so I went up to him to ask where I should sign in. Before I even opened my mouth, he told me that they opened at 12 and to come back then for my meal. FML

Today, working in a department store, I spent at least 30 minutes helping a verbally abusive elderly woman in a wheelchair find an appropriate jacket for winter. She finally asked me to retrieve one she wanted in her size. When I returned she was in deep sleep, snoring and all. FML

Today, I met a cute girl. She seemed really sweet and I was heartbroken to find out that she had fallen on hard times and was living in a shelter. I asked her if I could take her out to lunch. She said, "No." I can't even get a date with a homeless girl. FML

It is an easy mistake to make OP, she probably found it funny. Come on, if you are working with the homeless you'll learn to accept A, B and C and won't exactly dress to impress--as you probably do not want to rub their noses in it, long hours and expect the unexpected...

You're volunteering at this place, and you haven't learned to recognize the regular staff? You either a) are an idiot, b) haven't been volunteering long, or c) don't pay attention to things around you. YDI.

I went to give money to a homeless woman who had just used her last coin in the pay phone. I held out some Twoonies and Loonies and she declined through her tears. She didn't say why, but the way she looked me up and down indicated that she thought I needed money more than she did.
