Well, obviously you now have to cut the exact size piece off the other thumb.

That's why you curl all your fingers so that the blade doesn't have a chance to contact your fingers.
The blade should always be in contact with your curled fingers so that it doesnt cut you but sometimes you loose track of a finger and shit happens
