This isk inda bogus. I mean I'm not necessarily SAYING the OP is lying, i've had to register in california recently coming from out of state. BUT what the OP said isn't true. You CAN register your car without a smog check, sort of. You can get a temporary registration (30 days) and you have the 30 days to get the smog check and turn it in to receive your tags. From the DMV site: pay the DMV your vehicles registration fees and get your "half way papers" (Not valid registration, but an attempt to show responsibility, plus not be charged late fees). You may then explain to the DMV agent your vehicle's repair/smog situation and ask for at least a 30 day Temporary Registration Tag. You can post this Document on your vehicle's rear window, and drive your vehicle legally for 30 days or more; depending on the Temporary Tags you are given. In the mean time you need to attempt to resolve your vehicle smog situation.
OH and BTW. Your car didn't get impounded because you didn't register your car. That doesn't happen. How do I know? Because, I didn't register my car for almost a year after moving. I waited until my tags expired. In that time, I received a few parking tickets and was even stopped at a regular DUI check point where the cop questioned my out of state plates and license. Not once was my car impounded. The only thing that happened was I Had to pay a late fee. So I may have to call bogus on this one.
that is why you don't live in California. it's so gay...literaly
i hate when government shit gets ****** up like that
You deserved it for moving there.
umm....doesn't California have temporary registrations so you can do things like this? And why didn't you register it to begin with?

You should have done that all when you moved to California. Call me insensitive, but YDI.
