Weird parenting

By wow - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - United Kingdom

Today, I learned that I'm not really allergic to chocolate. My parents made it up when I was a child because they didn't want me to get fat. FML

That same thing happened to my mom, except that her mom didn't do it to keep her thin. She just didn't want her to have any.

So what your parents are trying to say is that eating chocolate = becoming fat?

It must have been hard to avoid chocolate all your life considering how much of it there is around. If you wish to try chocolate then get some lIndor, best chocolate in the world :) You might find that you don't like it when you try it but ah well its not the end of the world if you don't eat chocolate. I didn't eat chocolate until I was about 5, I used to have yogurt covered stuff instead. Its much more tasty than chocolate.

FYL, OP. : ( I love chocolate, and I can't imagine not having any for my entire childhood when there's so much of it around. It's not even as if chocolate is the only thing that makes you fat, so it makes no sense that your parents lied to you, and that was pretty shitty of them to do. Since you can have it now, try some! If you love it, make sure you try as many different kinds as you want, and buy a box of See's candies. It's not going to make you gain weight any more than eating too many Doritos would.

What a terrible thing for parents to do. They should've just taught her portion control, not excluding it from his/her diet altogether. Dark chocolate is actually healthy in small amounts :)

I was agreeing with you... Just pointing out why they did not just use the 'just don't by it' method
