Today, my coworker and I announced that we are spending our holidays together, because we both have kids. My boss then announced that he's coming with us. FML

Your boss may be cool outside of work. Give him a chance.

I agree with #13. I'm a manager where I work and I'm not so up tight outside of work. But also I do agree it could be awkward. It'll only be awkward if you make it awkward!

Hope your boss is an asshole. If he's chill have a good time if not , well there isn't much you can do now without making it awkward . Good luck op. I never really want follow ups but this I'm curious about .

Work just seems to follow you everywhere you go..

where's the word 'you'... this sentence was really confusing O.o

Suck up to him while you're on holiday and keep your job for a long time

I learned this in middle school. If you don't want someone inviting themselves along, you don't mention a fun event until after you have done it. Especially around the holidays, because people get lonely and assume they can invite themselves along. If you do not want your boss coming with you, then take Boss to the side and let him know that you do not have extra room and are sorry. But I think you might get some points with the bossman if you invite him along.

The trip must have sounded great and it must have sounded open ended...have fun
