Today, my father, who's never played much part in my life, told me how proud he is of me. I choked back tears, and we hugged for the first time in years. Later, I choked back my rage when I saw he'd opened my mail and obviously planned on leeching my new-found SSI money off me. FML

Today, for the first time in my life, my dad said he was proud of me. It meant a lot to me, and I started tearing up. Noticing my emotion, he looked at me pityingly, said "Aaaaand it's gone." and walked out of the room. FML

Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

Today, after years of waiting, my mom and I finally received a check from Child Support Services. Excited, I opened it up to find a check from my dad, written out for 45 cents. Which pays for maybe half a loaf of bread. FML

Today, my Dad called me to tell me that he had finally won the lottery and that I no longer had to worry about trying to find a way to pay for school. I was so excited I started crying. He then told me that he won $5 on a scratch off lotto ticket. He bought a sandwich. Funny dad. FML

Today, I called my very overprotective father, and he took the time to tell me how proud he was of me for finally finding a good and respectable boyfriend. And that he was sorry he misjudged. I was calling for bail money to get my "good, respectable" boyfriend out of jail. FML

If you're legally an adult and your father isn't your representative payee (a person who successfully applied to receive money on someone's behalf because he/she cannot manage their own money), he is not legally *ALLOWED* to cash your check. Unless his name is on the Treasury check, he cannot endorse & then cash the check; only you (or if you have a payee) can. So if there's any evidence of someone else's check endorsement or mail tampering (opening other people's mail), that's criminal activity. Report any check issues to Social Security Administration; you can go in person or call your local field office. If you haven't already, I would open a direct deposit account to have the money electronically sent to you.

I get SSI, I got denied 4 times before I appealed it, got a lawyer and went before a judge, and after he heard everything, he approved it! The people who fake an illness or a disability in order to get SSI, makes it hard for those who actually need it!
