I'm a woman and I hate spas as well. It's just strangers rubbing their hands over my body and face, I don't get what part of it should be relaxing. I get that you meant well, and it sucks when a surprise is turning out to be a huge disappointment instead, for both of you in that case. I mean, hopefully she appreciated the gesture at least, but next time just sit her down and tell her you want to do that for her, so what would she like? Tbh, sometimes mothers just want you to take the kids and leave and let her have silence for a couple of hours. Have a nap, watch TV, snack on something she doesn't have to share, turning off her cellphone for once instead of going to the next appointment to make smalltalk and engage with other people.
While your heart was in the right place, how did you not know you wife hates the spa
While her reaction does suck, you would think you'd know your wife well enough to know she'd hate that sort of thing.
give her a real facial

It does suck that she rejected your sweet gesture. But coming from a woman's point of view.. It kind of hurts when the man who is supposed to love you doesn't have a fine tune to your likes and dislikes. If my boyfriend spent a lot of money on me but it was something that was completely out of my character, sure I would thank him for the gesture but I would also be pretty upset that he was so wrong about me/my interests.
It does suck that she happens to not like it, but I don't blame her for her response. You're married to her, and you never asked her how she feels about spa days before you bought her one? Some people find them immensely boring and useless and really wouldn't want to go to one. Some people don't like having manicures or pedicures or facials. I wouldn't like it either if my husband paid for something costly for me that I really don't like. It's a waste of good money.
